When artist Yi-Hsin Tzeng showed in Atlanta this summer, I didn’t realize the full extent of her award-winning MFA thesis, My Magazine Project. Her last exhibit seemed promising for graduate work; the sculptures possessed a lively flamboyance balanced with a subtle intellectualism just on on the good side of weird. But that was a separate body of work, and I’m now intrigued to learn that her show opening at Young Blood Gallery this Saturday will involve more than only magazine covers. Each installment of the series culminates in a “new” publication transformed, from front to back, into a playful menagerie of grotesque fashionistas. You can sample a full illustrated preview here.

The gallery will also host an after party celebrating the launch of its new e-store. Here’s a sample of the evening agenda for Saturday, November 7:

Part One, 7:00 – 10:00
ART OPENING

Join us at the gallery for this month’s art opening starring Yi-Hsin Tzeng, SCAD’s graduate studio competition winner. In this show, viewers can appreciate her original pages and final product at the same time.
