Hudgens announces $50,000 prize, MOCA GA to give 3 at $12,000
Listen up local artists! The Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth has announced a new prize open to all artists currently living full-time in Georgia and over the age of 18. The winner of the Hudgens Prize will win $50,000 and receive a solo exhibition of their work at the Hudgens Center. The list of jurors is quite impressive and includes David Kiehl, Curator of Prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art; Eungie Joo, Director and Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs at the New Museum; and Sylvie Fortin, Editor-in-Chief of ART PAPERS magazine. Entries must be postmarked by June 4, 2010. This is a great new opportunity for Georgia artists. For more information check out Cathy Fox’s article at ArtsCriticATL.
The Hudgens Prize, however, is not the only competition out there. MOCA GA is currently accepting submissions for their Working Artists Project (WAP) 2010/2011. WAP is available to artists residing within metro Atlanta. The jurors will pick three winners, and each will be awarded a $12,000 stipend, a studio assistant, a solo show at MOCA GA, and an open spot for work added to MOCA GA’s permanent collection. Three artists will receive the award. This year, WAP will be judged by Annette Cone-Skelton, President/CEO/Co-Founder of MOCA GA and Allison Uhrun, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
There are opportunities for artists in the Atlanta area, and when we hear of any, our BURNAWAY staff will continue to pass them along!
